I make money from home in a variety of ways … see My Story on left Nav bar. One way to make money from home is by creating a website that will attract lots of visitors from search engines such as Google and Yahoo. However ... attracting traffic is merely the first step You then have to turn those visitors into people who purchase goods or services via your website giving you an income in the process.
This is a diary of how I progress with this website. (keep comming back to see how things work out)
Creating this website costs me less than a dollar a day and I set it up towards the end of June 2008. I have been really impressed with the value for money and all the help available.

(There are over 100 million active websites and the alexa ranking is a guide as to how your site stands - scroll down to see todays ranking.) ... Without being a Webmaster. In fact I know hardly anything about creating a website and attracting traffic but I know those who do. Obviously my aim is also to make money from home via this website I have created. I haven’t monetized yet but I will do in the future when visitor numbers warrant it.. the first step is to be good at attracting traffic. I would also like to be on the first page on a google search.
First I’ll give a brief run down as to what has happened up to today ... 26th September 2008 ... and then give a month by month account (Beginning of each Month) with current progress and results.
End of June 2008 to end of September. I started, knowing very little about creating a website and attracting visitors. I knew it was better if people could find me than me trying to find them. I also knew that many people were making great incomes from the Internet. So after looking around I set up this site for very little money and although it was easy to do, it did take some work in providing the content pages and in applying all the techniques. I still have a lot to do and learn. At times I did and do feel overwhelmed and frustrated with all the stuff to take onboard and the need to build slowly but surely.
The 1st step was in deciding a site name. I wanted to connect with people who wanted advice and help on making money from home. Because when I searched for help I got mainly pitches for one particular thing. See My Story ... on the left. I wanted to give people more choices to make money from home with legitimate home-based business. I wanted to give them more information. I do want people to join me in my various businesses because I know how good they are and yes I want people to buy goods and services through this site. But I want it to be more than that.
I want to be able to help people come to the right decision for them. I want this site to be helpful to people even if they don’t join me.
I wanted it to be wide based rather than a niche site. I know this will mean lots of competition and harder to get high up on Google search pages which is the aim. We’ll see here … how I do! I hope you journey with me.
June and July spent building pages … unique visitors June 65 July 147
August was spent adding pages and trying to get relevant links. Pages I can control as I create them but links are another story. You rely on people replying let alone rejecting your proposal. The majority just ignored the emails. I managed to add one or two and resorted to free directories to get some links! Still nowhere near enough. And some don’t seem to be reciprocating. August Visitors 181 Alexa Ranking 6,917,636
Didn’t do much on the website this month as I did a bit of hill walking and was preparing for a Himalayan trek in Nepal. I also had other commitments. I added another 3 pages to my site including this one. I also re-contacted possible exchange links to find a high proportion no longer had their websites. I made two extra links. I want to get up to 50 unique visitors a day or 1500 per month … it seems a long way off! Let's see how it goes! At the end of September it's 205 visitors and 6,149,201 Alexa ranking Things seem to be going the right way ... even though it seems slow to me... but that's me. To make money from home by creating a website is still in the early stages. Next report start of November.
All I did before taking a break was to add an Alexa widget because I heard it help with search engines and tweak a few keywords and titles. I also paid $50 for a website submission service to save me the time. Get Top Ranking in search engines It seems to have helped re the ranking of my website as it's now at 3,869,430.
The total for Unique visitors in October was 352 so things are going the right way but still not as quick as I would want. Lets see what November brings. Creating a website to make money from home and attracting traffic is still the goal but I just work on it bit by bit. It's 2nd of December and I've added a couple of new pages to my website. The ranking is at 3,828,179 Unique Visitors 449 giving me 14 per day ... ... still a good way off my target of 50 unique visitors per day and no appearance in googles top searches yet.

I haven't done a lot on the website in December as I've been consentrating on investments and buying recovery stocks which already have turned out profitable for me. I have added a couple of new pages to the website and December 2008 found the following results Unique Visitors for the Month = 434 giving me 14 unique visitors per day. And my ranking slipped a little to 3,995,655. I'm looking forward to 2009 to see how much progress some one like me ..(pretty green as to website building and promotion) ..can make over 12 months.
